P2.3 Basic functionality, Instrument Operability and Functioning

  • Phase : 2
  • Status : COMPLETE
  • Category : Daytime testing (functionality and operability) (C3)
  • Recurrence : once after instrument installation at telescope platform
  • Duration : 1 day

Description

  • Activating the instrument after the installation of SHARK-NIR at the telescope platform. Verification of the shutdown procedure.
  • The functionality and operability of individual components/sub-systems are tested. Verification of the internal alignment of the instrument is performed using the light source within. The final step is the performance of the system.

Prerequisites

  • SHARK-NIR is installed on the LBT telescope platform.

Procedure for Basic Functionality

  • Switch on all the cabinets, follow the instrument telemetry and see if the telemetry is logging.
  • Turn all the hardware subsystems turned on and start all the corresponding services. Check all the logs from the services.
  • Check the shutdown procedure.
  • Testing the electronics and SW rotation of the knob controlling the cool down process (LBTI side).

Procedure for Basic Functionality

  • Initialize all the motors/sub-systems.
  • Check the functionality of all the motors (home position, named/nominal positions, and reaching software limits).
  • Check the working of all the light sources.
  • Using the on-axis diffraction-limited light source, check the internal alignment of the SHARK-NIR.
  • Check the relative positions of the coronagraphic masks.
  • Check for on-axis optical quality.

Templates

  • SHARKNIR_gen_init
  • SHARKNIR_gen_park
  • SHARKNIR_gen_LampsOff
  • SHARKNIR_cal_tec_NCPA_PD_lab (Phase Diversity approach)
  • SHARKNIR_cal_tec_NCPA_trial (Trial & Error approach)
  • SHARKNIR_di_mon_MaskRepeatability

Success criteria

  • Activating instrument successfully.
  • All systems are turned on, and the services are all running without any errors.
  • The shutdown procedure is checked and working as it should be.
  • Motors and light sources are working as they should.
  • The internal alignment is preserved.
  • Performance of the system is acceptable.

Notes

LBTO support

  • Testing the working of the knob (motor or manual) controlling the cooldown.
