P2.1 Cable chain cabling and pre-lift verification

  • Phase : 2
  • Status : Draft
  • Category : Unpack, Assemble, and Verification
  • Recurrence : once (unless deemed necessary to remove SHARK-NIR from the telescope platform)
  • Duration : 2 days

Description

  • Insert due SHARK-NIR cables into the cable chain and secure them so that during bearing rotation, the cables do not pull too much. At the same time, they should adhere well to the cable chain and follow its curvature without making loops.
  • Verify the instrument and other components are ready for lifting to the telescope platform.

Prerequisites

  • SHARK-NIR cables are available. Calendered structure and SHARK-NIR optical bench rotation handling assembled and ready for use. Crane or lifting device available.

Procedure

  • Insert all the due cables in the cable chain and secure them to the cable chain with cable ties. This operation might be performed again and optimized during the bearing rotation test, depending on the behavior of the cables.
  • Cable chain shall be completely wrapped-up in SHARK-NIR optical bench. One end is screwed to the mechanical structure of the bench, while the other end shall be fixed using tape or cable ties.
    • Remove SHARK-NIR + red flange from parking handling and position it on SHARK-NIR optical bench rotation handling.
    • Extract SHARK-NIR optical bench from the red flange and remove the red flange from SHARK-NIR optical bench rotation handling.
    • Position the calendered structure on the SHARK-NIR optical bench rotation handling, with the calendered structure "ears" facing the floor.
    • Insert SHARK-NIR optical bench into the calendered structure, now lying on SHARK-NIR optical bench rotation handling.
    • Free the cable chain end fixed by tape and fix that end to the calendered structure, using the appropriate holes.
    • Pass the cable connectors through the hole in the calendered structure.
    • Make the bearing rotate many times and observe the behavior of the cable, adapting the fixing points if necessary.

Success criteria

  • SHARK-NIR cables are safe and secure.
  • All components are ready for the lift to the telescope platform.

Notes

LBTO support

  • Crew members' support for the preparation of SHARK-NIR for the lift-off.
  • Crane operator (cleanroom and mountain bay)
  • Safety officer
